74 Changes

Postby makngtrax » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:38 pm

We just recently picked up a 74 MkIII Midget that has the large rubber type bumpers. If I recall what I've read they also had the chrome grill and bumpers in 74 on the earlyer models. Is there a good chance our later car has the 1500 engine ?

Thanks, J.R., newbie from Northern CA.

check your VIN code. per my Haynes Midget guide, the 1500 engines started with the GAN6 chassis numbers.
GAN5 would indicate a 1275 motor.

That should be a 1275 engine.
Look under the carburetor heat shield and you will see a 1275 metal tag on the side of the block toward the front of the engine.

How about looking at the engine and noticing whether the carb(s) and manifolds are on the driver's or passenger's side of the car? ( In jest.)

Well, Duh !!

Thanks guys, 1275 it is. I guess my head got in that dark place working on those old jeeps the last bunch of years. Haven't had anything brittish in years until my wifes recently aquired midget. Keep your sense of humor, I sure I'll have more questions.................. :D
