Seat Belts

Postby Pubcrawler » Sat Jul 31, 2010 6:27 am

Hi everyone,
New to this forum so expect a few questions from me over the next few months as I come to terms with this great little car.
I have an Austin Sprite 1971 with the origonal seat belts and a roll cage. Presume these belts can be changed for inertia reel type. My question is which set do I purchase, where is the best place to buy them from, do I have to fit any additional anchor points and will the roll cage hinder the fitting of these new belts?
Thanks,
Martin.

I've got a '68 Bugsy with a Roll Bar. I used a set of inertia reel belts from a later '75 car but I would certainly encourage getting a newer set of belts. Found belts bolts up ok on the DS but on PS I needed to turn the retractor mechanism upside down in order to clear the roll bar. Belts just bolt to a set of brackets that bolt directly to the location used for the shoulder harness.

I'm told a set of rear belts from VW Jetta or Golf will work. Most junkyards will not sell due to liability concerns. Google seat belts and you can find replacement belt suppliers and all variety of types. Send me a PM if you need pics of how I mounted.

Thanks for the prompt reply Jim, have sent you a PM. I am intending to purchase a new set from MOSS or another Sprite/Midget supplier, have looked through various catalogues and am unsure which to order and at what cost. If anyone can advise further I would be gratefull. :D :D :D

I used the 2" lap belts without a shoulder harness. I have seen the rear wheel hump used as an attachment point but it seems like a low point to me. With a roll bar you should be able to find a good attachment point.
