fluid pushing out of master cyl...?

Postby SteveC » Sun May 23, 2010 8:22 pm

Love some input here boys:

Braking system is stock, drums fore/aft. Wheel cylinders and hoses were replaced 3.5 years ago. When I did the cylinders etc I flushed out all the old fluid and replaced it with Castrol LMA. The problem is that fluid pushes out of the MC cap. Not just a little either. Last year I bled the brakes 3 times during the summer and found air. After I bleed the peddle is great, brakes work fine. It doesn't last though. I can't find a leak anywhere, just the MC cap.

Is there a cause that is more likely then another? Do I need to rebuild the MC?

Time for a master cylinder rebuild and maybe some new rubber brake hoses if they are 10 years old.

Plastic or tin cap on the master cylinder? I had problems with the plastic cap. And don t overfill the MC. No need to top up to the max. But for peace of mind, change the hoses.
