Clutch/brake problem

Postby Charles Darley » Sun Jun 25, 2006 5:25 pm

I rebuilt my 1965 Sprite clutch/brake master cylinder, but can't seem to get pressure from the master to operate the clutch. The brakes are working fine. I didn't pre-bleed the master on the bench, but cracked the flare nut at the master and the fluid squirts out on the brake side and oozes out on the clutch side. Is re-opening the master my only option to solve this problem?

It's awfully tricky to bleed the clutch slave...here's what I did:

Connect everything.
Crack the bleed nut on the clutch
Fill the master cylinder
Use a used radiator hose (it "fits" around the screw top of the master (without the cap on) fairly well).
Gently blow in the hose, forcing fluid through the system (check often to keep the master full).

Once you have fluid in the pipes, then bleed normally.
