Pretty sure that the Metro's used the "B" block motor (MGA/MGB,etc) that was 1200cc (smaller bore/stroke) but not the "A" block.

You might be right but this refers to the A40 engine being used. Did the early A40 use a 'B' engine? It is a 1200cc engine so that may be waht it is. Have to say I haven't looked real close at the Metro engines.

Yes, A40 Devons of the early to mid fifties used a 1200cc engine.
I am not sure if it was the "B" series but it was not an "A" series.
Although they do look alot alike.
My 59 A40 Farina came stock with a 948 A series engine and yes a 1275 dropped right it
The later Nash Metros used the B series MGA engine. Again not sure about the early Mets.

The "Metro" that we are refering to is the "Nash Metropolitan" made in the late 1950's and early 1960's , not the Mini Metro (which does have the A+ engine)
The Nash was a very funny looking little (for over here) car that had the "b" block engine and 4 speed transmission but was advertised as having a "full- syncro" transmission. This was done by having a special side cover on the trans which locked-out 1st gear and thus the non-syncro part of the trans. Or course this made them use a horribly geared differential so that it could start out in out 2nd gear and top speed was barely 60 mph. I have had a few friends with Metros who have sawed off the lockout in the side cover and put a normal MGB differential in so top speed was reasonable.
