Mk II hardtop dedicated side curtains

Postby lowkey1 » Wed May 09, 2007 11:09 am

I have the MKII hard top that requires dedicated side curtains. The ones that angle back slightly. Other than that it looks just like the standard factory top. I have had this top for 20 years and have not found any side curtain frames. Maybe someone on this forum can help. I have collected some standard frames with the intent of possibly cutting them in sections and forming the arc, then welding them. I think they might have to be taller and that makes it even more complicated. I have bigger projects that keep this put on the shelf. Please reply if anyone knows where I might find a set.

The only hardtop that i know of that required special side curtains was the DMH hardtop. All the BMC and other after market hard6ops were designed to use the standard factory and after market side curtains. The DMH side curtains are as scarce as hen's teeth as is the DMH hardtops!

I have only seen one set of side curtains like that on eBay since I have been watching Healey items, since 2002.

MK II TOP

I know someone on the MG enthusiast site over the pond has a set . You may have some luck posting on there.

As a minimum you could probably have a set of tracings made to give you a template for modifying a set of standard side curtains. The top was a standard factory top for the early early MKII Midget and was later modified to use the standard side curtains. One of these tops sold on ebay last year with the original side curtains. I pointed out to the seller that the side curtains were unique to the top and he included them with the sale. He had intended to sell them seperately . I may still have the sellers email address. If so he may be able to put you in touch with the buyer.

Here is the link to the top that sold on ebay. The winning bidder id is kibbe428d. You should be able to contact him thru ebay.

Thanks for the contact info Sprite63. I knew one had sold on ebay, but had no luck finding the closed listing. I really like this top because the side visibility is much better. If I could get curtains for it, I might even put the heater box and blower back in the car. Right now. I never drive it unless I can leave the soft top off.
