Doing sills and need help

Postby tlkolrod » Tue Jun 08, 2010 11:28 pm

Hello all I am doing the sils on my 66 and I have questions. The body is braced and I have removed most spot welds. What gets done at the intersection of the top of the rear sill where it meets the bottom front of thr rear fender. The sill is trapped under this potion of the rear fender. How do you handle this tricky area?

I have not had the pleasure, (not) of replacing a sill, but I have rebuilt both ends of the sill, and replaced the rear quarter panels which gave me a view of the rear sill that is captured under the rear quarter panels. Both the rear sill and the rear quarter panel have flanges that spot weld together. I checked a copy of the 1984 Haynes Guide to Purchase and DIY Restoration for Mg Midget and Sprite and page 72 confirms that you will need to cut the sill just below the quarter panel seam and below the A post seam. The rest is spot weld that can be drilled out.
