Who did a door post? (A pillar)

Postby tlkolrod » Tue Jun 01, 2010 5:43 pm

I am looking for anyone who put in their own door post repair piece. I need to do it for my 66 MG. I just want to speak to someone who has don it before I go cutting and chopping
Thanks Toby

I didn't replace the entire A post, but I did make repairs to the bottom hinge mount point on both A posts on my 69 Midget. This basically involved cutting out areas on the inside and outside of the A post and cutting out the interior metal where the bottom hinge mounts. Replacement pieces were fabricated and measurements were made to make sure the door hinge mounting plate was replaced exactly in the same position. There is also a tang that has to be welded on the inside of the replacement hinge plate to hold the 3 hole threaded hinge plate in place. I've finished everything on both posts except I have not closed the exterior because I just ordered some replacement threaded plates. Here are some pics of my progress.
