My Bugeye. will not start. Have had roadside assist come.
His verdict, All components in distributor are earthed whether the points are open or closed.
No spark at HT leads.
No make or break signal at negative side of coil.
Power to plus side of coil.
Do you have any thoughts?

1. Check on the plastic insulator that fits over the ground (earth) stud, which keeps the large curved spring of the points from contacting the electrical ground stud. This insulator also prevents the ignition voltage from shorting to the ground stud.

2. Remove the condensor (capacitor) wire from its connection to the points. The condensor might be shorted internally. Remeasure the voltages.

Charlie T.

Note that the ignition system needs a capacitor. A high voltage spark will not be generated if the condensor wire is not connected, electrically.

Hi Charlie, with the help of a mate we managed to fix the problem. We are not sure exactly how, but we did pay very careful attention to the plastic bush you mentioned and did replace the capacitor, along the pig tail wire, the main wire the centre of the coil, the cap, bought a replacement coil , but did not need it. So problem solved , what is next?
Many thanks.
