Taco flicker problem with Electronic Ignition.

Postby Aussiedave » Wed Nov 10, 2010 1:24 am

Have just bought a Aldon electronic Ignition. Was about to fit it,when I decided to read the instructions. it noted that cars fitted with Smiths Electric tacho RV1 will experience ficker with all brands of Electronic Ignition, but a kit costing 50 pounds will convert the tacho so as to overcome the problem.
Does anybody know what that conversion is?

I had problems with incorrect and unsteady readings of an electrical tachometer when I changed to a spark coil that had a plastic case, replacing one with a metal case.

The metal case was apparently shielding the electromagnetic radiation from inside the coil, and the plastic case was not.

A recommended fix was to install a shielded wire from the low voltage connection on the coil to the tachometer. The braded metal shield was to be grounded. Instead, I switched back to a coil with a metal case.

I do not know if possible electrical radiation from a newly installed electronic ignition would be the cause of your potential problem.
