What ignition system are you using?

Have a Lucas question?

What ignition system are you using?

What ignition system are you using?

I'd like to convert my car to a 12V negative ground system, with an msd ignition box and pertronix electronic ignition coil.

Anyone running a similar setup?

I run a Mallory dual point converted w/Petronix and MSD 6A box on the race car. I honestly don't see the need for the MSD box if you're running Petronix and a good coil on a street car. Personally, I'd put the $300+ for the MSD elsewhere. Then, down the road if you run out of stuff to spend money on for the car you can always add it if you're feelin' froggy. I just don't think you'll see much of a difference over and above the Petronix on a street motor.

Thanks for the response guys. I have the msd 6a on my 92 ford ranger with a V8 conversion. The ranger is in storage until I graduate, so I figured I might use it on the sprite. Would it hurt anything? If there is no advantage, I guess I'll leave well enough alone though.

I use a Pertronix and MSD 6AL on my vintage car. They work fine together. However, for a street car, I'd just stick with the Pertronix.

On my SCCA car, I use dual switchable MSD 6AL's, one primary, one back-up, each with it's own dedicated coil. I run the back-up MSD without a rev limiter, so I can switch-over during a race just in case I need a little extra rpm. Primary signal comes from a crank trigger which is always at full advance, switchable to a Pertronix for back-up and starting. I wouldn't recommend this set-up for anything but full race use.

Sorry to go off on a tangent.

Stock distributor w/points, negative ground... I do have a Lucas Sport coil (just because it's cool).
