Gear shift lever offset 5-Speed

Postby dcsprite » Fri Mar 09, 2018 11:42 am

I've put a Datsun 5-speed with the Rivergate kit into my 1966 Sprite. The gear shift lever is offset about 1" to the driver's side of the "can" on the transmission tunnel. Has anyone had any experience with bending the Datsun lever to center it in the "can"? Or, should I just get a vinyl or leather gaiter, loose the "can", and get something to attach the gaiter to the tunnel?

I've done google and bing searches for interior photos, but nothing really shows what a gaiter without the "can" looks like.

Have you asked Rivergate for suggestions ?

I have a shifter boot, for a different car application, and probably purchased it from AutoZone. It is made with leather or naugahyde, flexible, black, cone shaped, about 8" to 9" tall, with a elastic bottom opening that is near 17" to 18" (max.) in perimeter, and with a small diameter top opening and draw string for attachment to the shifter rod. This might work well with the stock Sprite shifter "can" ?
