Miata engine swap

Postby rob66sprite » Sat May 07, 2011 3:32 pm

I have visited the site for the "Mite" and have purchased a 96 Miata as a donor car. I am looking for other sources for advice on the swap. I know the "Mite" is a great place to get info and I look forward to using his experience but I know there has to be more Miata swaps out there. The more sources I can find the more comfortable I will be because I do not have a lot of experience in car restoration.

Thanks,
Rob

How's this swap going for you?

Have thought about a miata swap...glad someone else is thinking along those lines. Can you fabricate the rear end and/or gearbox as well?

The rear end is independent and 12 " wider and would take a lot of work to get it to fit. I have not even started the swap. My wife has been driving a van for the last 15 years and my buddy told her the Miata was in too good of shape to waste as a parts car so she has been driving it :x . I told her if it passed smog without any additional costs she could keep it. Unfortunately it passed with out additional costs. In order to keep the project moving (and my wife happy :D ) I have decided to stay original. With this being my first project I should stay mostly original to keep the complexity reduced.
I look forward to building another and I will do a transplant in it.
