Valve Stem Seals?

Postby boxfullofyertoys » Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:46 pm

Hey everyone...I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this....

I finally got back into the garage today and decided to take my head over to the machine shop to be worked on ( clean, magnaflux, cut, and valve job :) ). When I was talking to the guy at the shop, he asked me if I had the valve stem seals. I told him that I wasn't sure if the engine had them...when I originally pulled the head to replace the head gasket (the 1st time), I also cleaned up the head and everything else myself. I noticed at the time there were no stem seals on the valves. There also weren't any in the head gasket set I purchased, and there's no reference to them in Moss or Victoria British. I'm assuming the car simply doesn't use them, but I figured I'd throw it to the forum to see if that is indeed the case...

Can someone tell me if the 1500 needs/uses valve stem seals, and if so...where can I get them?

Thanks!

No seals on the 1500 heads. Absolutely not necessary for a relatively tight motor with limited ring blowby.
