Sprinzel Sebring Sprite
April 26th 2008. Two weeks after the initial start up Colin Pascoe and Richard Wiffin return, as the engine develops oil pressure problems. Richard looks justifiably concerned!

Colin in the process of eliminating all possibilties. A remote oil pressure gauge was tried in case EAO's restored original gauge was faulty. All other obvious methods of obtaining oil pressure were employed, but sadly to no avail. It appears the problem lies within the engine.

Sadly (and that's an understatement), EAO will not be running before the two 50th anniversary events at Goodwood and Gaydon. I will have to pull the engine and strip it, to discover what's gone wrong once the events are over.

In spite of engine problems, other tasks such as fitting front and rear screens passed off without a hitch!

EAO's engine compartment seen during Andrew Hedges' ownership in mid' 1961. The carburettor velocity stacks or ram pipes were originally handmade by Don Moore. Choke levers were removed and the jets wired-up.

47 years later and apart from some 'tidying', the differences are few (ignoring the fact that the '61 engine worked perfectly)!

Had Don Moore used colour film in his camera back in '61, his shot would have looked something like this. Eventually, in addition to getting the thing running, I plan to replace the Morris Minor type engine steady bar bracket on the gearbox casing with a longer version, and also fabricate a pair of machined alloy ends for the ram pipes. Time ran out before the 50th anniversary celebrations!
